Indonesia field trip

Tourism students and staff from the University of Westminster and the University of Pancasila, recently engaged in joint field trip to study community tourism in a village near Mount Bromo in East Java, Indonesia.

Indonesia field trip

The trip was supported by Quinton Hogg Funding in the UK and Ministry of Tourism in Indonesia. Students gained hands-on experience of the challenges faced by a small farming community as it starts to engage in the tourism industry. They used their experiences as tourists to engage with locals providing insights and recommendations to support further developments and improvements to their tourism services.

The trip was also used to further develop research collaboration between Dr Nancy Stevenson from Westminster and Dr Devi Kauser from Pancasila - on a project to investigate tourists propensity to travel to destinations that have experienced crises or disaster. This will inform a larger project on disaster management in Indonesia.
