Law 18 October 2017

Reader in International Law Ruth Mackenzie recently participated in the first meeting of a legal working group on liability for environmental harm arising from mining activities in the seabed area beyond national jurisdiction.

The International Seabed Authority is developing regulations for the exploitation of mineral resources, based on the provisions of Part XI of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The meeting was held in London on 28 and 29 September 2017, and was co-sponsored by the Centre for International Governance Innovation, the Commonwealth Secretariat and the International Seabed Authority.
