Visit to Silicon Valley inspires teaching innovation

Business and Management 12 July 2016

Speaker at SAP headquarters

Dr Panos Hahamis recently joined a global network of technical innovators at the SAP University Alliances Digital Transformation Incubator in Silicon Valley, California. The series of events brought together the teaching innovators, venture capitalists and startups at the forefront of driving innovation and digital transformation.

The purpose of the trip was to inspire participating academics about the digital transformation, SAP’s enabling technologies and their innovation partners. This is so that academics in turn can better prepare students to be the next-gen designers, developers, makers, data scientists, entrepreneurs and business leaders of the digital world.

Westminster Business School is constantly looking for new ways to develop students' entrepreneurial thinking and drive innovation. Panos' learning experiences will be shared with colleagues at Westminster Business School and feed back into teaching and tutoring. For example, on the module Online Entertainment Management, part of the assessment for students is to develop an innovative app. The module was originally developed by colleague Phil Sainter five years ago, and will be updated and operated by Panos from September 2016.

Panos was the only academic from the UK attending the event and was thrilled to establish ties with the strong academic innovation network in Silicon Valley. Colleagues from Stanford University, Singularity University, Cannon Design, and the SAP Startup Focus programme also attended the event.

As part of Westminster Business School’s ongoing partnership with SAP University Alliances, students on the Purchasing and Supply Chain Management MSc get a discount on the sought after Professional SAP Certification.
