Imagination and the Sciences: Inaugural Lecture

4 February 2014

SCIMAG is pleased to announce the Inaugural Lecture by the Director of the Centre, Professor Martin Willis, at Fyvie Hall, 309 Regent Street on Wednesday 26 March 2014, 6-7pm.

Delivered by Professor Martin Willis, this lecture will consider the historical and current relationships between the literary imagination and the sciences. Arguing for an ongoing and vital interaction between these two apparent opposites, Professor Willis will reveal how the imagination provides the sciences with a place in culture, political significance, and a model for communication.

Martin Willis holds a Chair in Literature, Science and Communication in the Department of English, Linguistics and Cultural Studies. Professor Willis’s research career has focused on the interactions between literary narrative and scientific writing and practice. His most recent book Vision, Science and Literature, 1870-1920: Ocular Horizons, won both the British Society for Literature and Science book prize and the European Society for the Study of English Cultural Studies Book Prize in 2011.

Register online for this inaugural lecture.
