Westminster hosts ninth edition of The Ultimate Seminar offering unparalleled education in music

Music 29 November 2018

The event, organised by Cre8ing Vision in association with the University of Westminster, took place on Saturday 24 November in the Little Titchfield Campus and invited several experts to share their insights in all aspects of the music business.

Endorsed by renowned names such as Stormzy, Island Records US President Darcus Beese and Dua Lipa manager Ben Mawson, the seminar offered access to established professionals and gave young people the chance to hear from them and work on their own personal ambitions.

It offered a number of talks and panels that addressed the changing landscape of the music industry and how to succeed in it. Attendees had the chance to have a brief one-to-one session with music industry experts on speed networking sessions and a ‘Music Surgery’.

Shiela Birungi, Manager at the Creative Enterprise Centre and Student Entrepreneurship Programme at the University, commented: “It is a pioneering annual initiative to champion and drive aspiring and emerging artists and music industry professionals towards their goals of succeeding in the industry. It closely aligns with our mission to empower students to become highly employable, commercially aware and entrepreneurial graduates.”

The keynote speaker was David Dollimore, President of RCA Records UK and Ministry of Sound Recordings. In his chat, he explored top industry tips and predictions, as well as his background in the recording business. David has helped launch the careers of several successful artists, including London Grammar, DJ Fresh and University of Westminster’s alumnus Sigala.

David Dollimore said during the event: “We have backed The Ultimate Seminar for the last three years. They have consistently delivered high-quality speakers year in year out talking to an information-hungry audience about the music industry’s future. It’s always packed and has now turned into a ‘must go’ feature of the music industry calendar.”

Other speakers included Sulinna Ong, Global VP Artist Marketing at Deezer, Rob Pascoe, General Manager at Virgin EMI, Charlene Grant, Senior A&R at BMG Music Publishing, Cass Lowe, Grammy and Ivor Novello-winning songwriter and producer, and Etta Bond, singer and songwriter.

Cre8ing Vision aims to provide people with first-hand insight into the music, sport and creative industries. They encourage young adults to be confident in their future success by running a series of seminars, educational programmes and internships.

The University of Westminster works to support innovative programmes that help educate and inspire the next generation of leaders.
