PRCA Careers Fair at Westminster attracts students from all over the country

Students and graduates aspiring to land a career in Public Relations attended the PRCA Careers Fair, sponsored by the Public Relations and Advertising BA Honours course at the University of Westminster.

For a second year running, the PRCA Careers Fair was hosted at the University of Westminster offering attendees the opportunity to meet potential employers including Hotwire, the PHA Group and Prova PR. The event provided first-hand insight and advice from professionals working in the industry through panel discussions and presentations.

Speakers representing leading public relations companies, including M&C Saatchi PR, Golin and Nelson Bostock Unlimited talked students through their experience of starting out in the industry and shared invaluable insights into how to land their first job.

The panel discussion emphasised the variety of ways to break into the industry, but all panellists agreed that being persistent and as proactive as possible are important qualities to lead to success. Giving tips on how to become a stand-out applicant, Pema Seely, Senior Account Director at M&C Saatchi PR, said:  “Practice your writing, start a blog, get yourself known.”

The event featured Joe Mackay-Sinclair, Founder and Executive Creative Director at PR agency The Romans, who is a judge and winner of Cannes Lions Awards. Joe presented some of The Romans’ work which highlighted the power of creativity to drive brands forward. Tom Green, Senior Account Director at The PHA Group, introduced students to examples of creative pitches to grab journalists’ attention.

The event, sponsored by the Public Relations and Advertising BA Honours offered Westminster students half price tickets, making the day more accessible for students enrolled on the programme. Westminster’s Public Relations and Advertising course places equal emphasis on mastering students’ practical skills and developing their academic potential. Encompassing the study of two disciplines, the course equips students with a diverse range of skills and prepares them to land careers across multiple industries.
