Santander Universities donates £40,000 to support Westminster scholarships, internships and students programmes
20 September 2017
The £40,000 donation from Santander University will be divided and shared among different University projects contributing to the development of students’ scholarships, internships and awards at the University of Westminster.
Part of the funds will contribute to the Santander Universities and Regent Street Association Internship programme aimed at offering twenty students the chance to undertake a three month summer internship at a business or retailer along Regent Street.
The Westminster Working Cultures Scheme will also benefit from the donation allowing 30 students to experience working life in leading companies in a range of various industries this year.
Ten students will also have the chance to take part in the Investment Encounter Programme, offering them opportunities to shadow professionals in the investment industry with a financial incentive of £500 upon completion.
Finally, a proportion of the donation will be dedicated to the University of Westminster Entrepreneurship club, facilitating relationships between students, staff and alumni from across the university, who share a common interest in entrepreneurial ventures, as well as supplementing existing initiatives.
President of the University of Westminster, Professor Geoff Petts said about the donation: “Santander has been a valued partner of the University of Westminster for the last six years. In this time, their generous donations have enabled hundreds of students to benefit from a range of scholarships to enhance their professional growth.
“The ties between the University of Westminster and Santander continue to strengthen every year, and we are delighted to be partnering to deliver the national final of the Santander Universities’ Entrepreneurship Awards at the Regent Street Cinema on Thursday 5 October. We are extremely grateful to Santander for renewing their support to the University, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration into the future.”
Mark Homans, Senior Relationships Director, also said about this partnership: “Santander Universities are delighted to extend our partnership agreement with the University of Westminster for a further three years. This extension will be our third partnership agreement, taking the relationship into its ninth year and will continue support for scholarships, mobility, internships and entrepreneurship activity.
“It is an honour for us to work with such a prestigious partner and one that shares our values, focused on helping people and businesses prosper. The future is bright and following the extension of our agreement today, I look forward to many more exciting projects in the coming years.”
Events and Conference Management MA student Carla Gaggini, who had the opportunity to get an internship at the Royal Society of Medicine thanks to Santander Universities’ grant, said about her experience: “This experience, and the extensive knowledge I've gained during the three months, prepared me well for finding future employment after graduating. I am truly grateful to Santander Universities for helping to make this internship opportunity with the University possible through their support of the internship placement scheme. Having the Santander award also helped to improve my CV even further. I recommend any current students reading this to apply for the scheme to build your graduate employability now."
