Dr James Morgan from the University of Westminster

Dr James Morgan CSEP, Senior Lecturer in Events, has been selected as one of the most influential event professionals on Twitter in 2016.

Dr Morgan was announced to be the 19th of the 60 best event planners to follow on Twitter this year.

“As a respected speaker, awards judge, writer and industry commentator James is passionate about educating the event professionals of the future and takes an avid interest in promoting quality standards and professionalism in the events industry,” writes the events platform The Bizzaboo Blog that created the list.

Dr Morgan is the Founder of Event Tech Lab, a global partnership community for event technology start-ups, sits on the International Education Council of the International Live Events Association, and he is staff writer for the Event Manager Blog. At the University of Westminster he teaches event design and production, events marketing and management as well as subjects on some of the Tourism modules in the Department of Property, Construction and Tourism.

He said: “I’m honoured to have been included in the list of influential professionals for 2016. I am very lucky to have the opportunities afforded me by the University as an academic to enhance my knowledge of events alongside the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment allowing me to practice my craft. This winning combination has led to me being included on the list.”

Dr Morgan talked about what his presence on the influential list meant for students. “We have hosted numerous people on the list as visiting lecturers - live and via Skype - to broaden academic perspectives. Aligning Westminster and having contact with some of the most influential events practitioners from around the world is fantastic for the student experience, and make sure that students leave Westminster with knowledge of the latest trends in professional practice.”

He added: “Being subjected to the best gene pool of knowledge from the most important creatives and influencers in the global events industry allows students to engage with them via social media and face-to-face to continue their professional development.”

The list was created by The Bizzaboo Blog taking a number of factors into consideration, including Klout Score, Moz Page Authority, Twitter Follower to Following ratio, Qualifications, and experience as a judge, speaker or author.
