Paris School of Business students come to Westminster summer school to learn about Brexit

Business and Management 16 August 2016

Students from Paris attending the Brexit module at Westminster

MA students from the University of Westminster’s international partner school, the Paris School of Business, spent a week at the Westminster Business School to learn about Brexit, as part of a summer school which is first of its kind.

Westminster Business School Lecturer Darrell Kofkin introduced students to the concept and background of globalisation and glocalisation, while Senior Lecturer Dr Kristina Vasileva taught them about the financial aspects of globalisation and the Brexit vote. Frances Mulleady explored the relationship between globalisation and the European Union as well as how the economic community developed into the single market. The Senior Lecturer also talked about the implications of Brexit looking at the possible outcomes in the short and long term future.

To conclude the summer school, the Paris School of Business students prepared group presentations about a strategy for a business wanting to expand to another EU country and what implications Brexit will have for this.

David Russell, Dean of the Paris School of Business who accompanied the students to the trip, said: “I can confirm that the students were absolutely delighted with their experience in London, both in terms of “form and content”. I would definitely like to explore ways of strengthening this module and making it a permanent part of the programme. Many thanks to everybody at Westminster who made this module possible.”

Darrell Kofkin, who led the innovative summer school taking place on the University’s Marylebone Campus, said: “The students told me that they really enjoyed the programme, loved the Brexit context and felt that this really helped them put their learning into a very current and contemporary context. This was certainly a unique programme. I imagine it was probably a 'first' with its Brexit theme.”
