On 7-8 February, the University of Westminster hosted the 11th annual National Student Pride event, with over 1,500 LGBT students from across the UK attending.

The free day-long National Student Pride event at the University included the largest LGBT student Careers Fair in the UK. Household names present at the careers fair included L’Oreal Paris, Google, Ford, EDF, the Royal Air Force, NUS, Network Rail and the Royal Navy.

The focus of this year’s National Student Pride was the vital discussion of Mental Health, which disproportionately affects LGBT people. The Mental Health debate was chaired by editor of Attitude Magazine, Mathew Todd, with a panel including pop star Will Young, DJ and transgender model Munroe Bergdorf, Mental Health and Wellbeing coordinator for the Metro, Taz Edwards-White, campaigner Jonny Benjamin and Nigerian LGBT rights activist and founder of Kaleidoscope Trust, Bisi Alimi.

Other speakers at the event included BBC Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts and Jaymi Hensley from boyband Union J.

The two-day event at the University of Westminster concluded with a cinema screening of ‘MILK’ at the iconic Regent Street Cinema, followed by a Q&A session with LGBT human rights activist and political speaker Stuart Milk, nephew of civil rights leader Harvey Milk.

The University of Westminster is part of Stonewall's Diversity Champions programme. The programme is Britain's good practice employers' forum on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. Working with Stonewall allows the University of Westminster to champion equality in the workplace and is part of the University’s mission to engage with London’s dynamic and diverse communities.
