The University of Westminster is pleased to announce the launch of the new ‘Break the Silence Scholarship’, a unique scholarship aimed at foregrounding the global issue of violence against women.

The scholarship is designed to support a postgraduate student conducting study and research to combat the issue of violence against women. Recent global cases of reported acts of violence against women have included issues of forced marriages, human trafficking, domestic violence and female genital mutilation (FGM).

“We strive to offer diverse and pioneering scholarships aimed at enabling students to go out and really make a difference in the world once they graduate. This particular scholarship was inspired by the UN General Secretary’s ongoing UNiTE campaign to end violence against women. We are passionate about the 'Break the Silence' Scholarship as it will encourage and support academic research into combatting the global issue of violence against women, in all its forms.” says the University’s Scholarships Office.

Applicants wishing to apply for the ‘Break the Silence Scholarship’ must make a development case addressing how they would use the knowledge and experience gained during their Masters degree to contribute towards ending violence against women. Applicants must be able to demonstrate how their particular course and future plans relate directly to the issue of preventing violence against women.

The deadline for the ‘Break the Silence Scholarship’ is 1 May 2015 for September 2015 entry. Applicants wishing to apply must hold the equivalent to a UK First Class Honours degree. The scholarship is open to international students from developing countries holding an offer for a full-time Masters at the University of Westminster.

The University of Westminster is proud to offer one of the leading University scholarships programmes in the UK.
