Professor Vlatka Hlupic voted one of the most influential HR thinkers in 2015

Professor Vlatka Hlupic was included on the prestigious top 30 list of most influential HR thinkers in 2015 compiled by HR Magazine. This year the magazine is marking the 10th anniversary of its ranking and hosted top HR directors as well as some of the biggest names in HR thinking at their prestigious event on Monday 21 September.

HR most influential lists recognise the practitioners, thinkers and academics who have had the greatest influence in the field of people strategy. The peer-based ranking is intended to create a definitive list of the top influencers in the sector and to develop a deeper understanding of what defines influence in HR.

The list is based on nominations from readers for the work that has inspired them and impacted on how they approach their role. An expert panel comprising 50 members judged the nominated candidates according to their personal influence, practical relevance, visibility, originality and influence during the past year.

It’s very rewarding to have my work recognised in this way. I feel extremely proud to be part of this prestigious HR community of thinkers. Helping individuals, companies and society create happier, more purposeful and successful workplaces is my passion, it’s my life purpose. It gives me drive, energy and motivation, and it’s hugely satisfying to see the practical impact of my ideas.

What I have seen in many companies are over-controlling management styles and systems that employees find stifling and demotivating. Companies need a better understanding of human psychology and motivation. I call it humanising management, treating people with respect, and distributing power and decision-making. The results, in terms of performance and success, can be astonishing. It’s why I wrote my book.

Current projects

Professor Hlupic is currently undertaking research into the mindsets and leadership styles of 50 CEOs in some of the world’s most successful companies. The results will appear in a new book, providing further practical lessons for other organisations to make the shift towards enlightened leadership.

She has also started work on the launch of a global petition for humanising management, supported by many leading management thinkers and professional associations.
