Over 3,500 students attend Westminster’s employability events during Autumn semester

15 December 2015

During the first semester of the 2015–16 academic year, the University of Westminster’s Career Development Centre held eight successful on-campus careers and skills fairs for Westminster students, with key industry figures in attendance.

Events held across campuses have included the very well attended Skills and Part Time Jobs Fair attended by around 1,800 students and alumni, the Business Careers Fair and Alumni Panel, the Legal Skills Academy, the Science and Technology Volunteering Fair, the Computer Science and Engineering Careers Fair, and the Languages Careers Fair, the Social, Public and Education Careers Fair, and the Property and Construction Careers Fair.

Visiting industry professionals attending the fairs included representatives from big industry names such as Apple, Deloitte Real Estate, British Airways, Bloomberg, Network Rail, Lloyds Banking Group, the NHS, Sky, Teach First, Warner Bros, and many more.

The Business Careers Fair and Alumni Panel featured four graduates from the Westminster Business School including Human Resource Management MA 2010 graduate Sotiris Kyriacou, Head of Finance Development and Professionalism at the NHS, and Business Studies BA graduate Daniel Truscott, Managing Director at Pure HMV.

First year Business Management BA Honours student Ivan Frederick, who attended the Skills and Part Time Jobs Fair, said: “I really liked that there were so many employers and you could find really interesting part-time jobs and get good work experience for your CV. It was also very good because you can get a bit of extra money, for having fun in London and enjoying the city as well. I applied for some hosting jobs because it is very flexible and I hope I will get it.”

Ludovica Ludovici, second year Law LLB Honours student, also met a number of employers and said: “I would recommend this to all first year students. You totally don’t want to miss it! I really look forward to getting accepted to the jobs I applied for.”

Coming up next semester will be the continuation of the ongoing Legal Skills Academy, as well as Employability Month during 27 January – 2 March which will include the Creative Careers Fair at the Harrow Campus on 27 January, the Volunteering Fair on 24 February, the Networking workshops and alumni networking events hosted by the Students Union, as well as many more great opportunities for students.
