MusicTank launches an innovative one-day Tour Management Course and associated #MyTourHell competition

Music 8 April 2015

MusicTank, the University of Westminster’s music industry think tank and business information hub, has announced the launch of new one-day Tour Management course – The Road To Tour Management – along with an associated competition, #MyTourHell.

The innovative course will be tutored by Andy Inglis who brings over 20 years’ experience in the live sector as a tour manager, artist manager and lecturer. Andy manages the 2014 Mercury Prize-nominated artist East India Youth and is the respected co-creator and manager of London venue The Luminaire.

The Road to Tour Management builds on MusicTank’s successful live industry course, Get Plugged-In: Live Music, Promotion and Venue Management. The course is designed as a much-needed best-practice roadmap for tour management. The one-day course is open to anyone working in the live sector, in particular students contemplating a career as a tour manager, practicing artists, musicians and bands or artist managers needing to take on tour management responsibilities or wanting the knowledge to successfully appoint a tour manager.

Tour management is often a role that people fall into without any experience. The Road To Tour Management debunks the myths and outlines the principles and practice of effective tour management, from accounting, advancing, merchandising and sound engineering, through to international touring and festivals, border controls, visas and customs.

Andy Inglis said: “Whether you want to be a Tour Manager, you’re the manager assuming those responsibilities, or simply the only member of the band who’s got decent wifi and can liaise with the promoters (!), this one-day course will prepare you for the all the things you hadn’t thought of, and set you straight about all the things you had.”

The #MyTourHell competition has been launched alongside the new course and offers all entrants 20 per cent off the course fee (subject to course availability). MusicTank is calling for touring hell stories. Entries can be submitted in the form of a 60-second video, an Instagram photo, an illustration or a tweet. All entries must be made via the Twitter hashtag #MyTourHell by 13 April. The winner will receive a free place on the Tour Management course starting 20 April and a year’s free membership to MusicTank. The winner will be announced on 14 April.
