Music Business Management students scoop jobs at industry-leading Sony/ATV and Ministry of Sound

Tutors on the course have an excellent relationship with the music industry, which plays a major role in Music Business Management MA students scooping positions at high-profile industry players even before finishing the one-year degree, the three students agreed.
Sofie Lindevall and Brittany Clark will join Sony/ATV Publishing from April as copyright analysts focusing on handling copyright data and information.
Sony/ATV Music Publishing is now the largest music publishing company in the world, having published songs from the likes of Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Whitney Houston, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, the Rolling Stones and Taylor Swift.
Through the University's industry network MusicTank, Sally Anne Gross, Programme Director of the Music Business Management MA course, received a call about the opportunity. After Sally passed on Sofie's and Brittany's CVs to Sony/ATV Publishing, the students went through an interview process and they were offered a position shortly afterwards.
Sofie Lindevall said: "I do believe that me coming from a course like this, which is well-recognised and known by people working in the industry, played an important role in me getting the job."
Brittany Clark also spoke highly of the course. "Our course is respected in the London music scene. The professors are brilliant, the speakers we have been able to meet are incredible and everyone is extremely knowledgeable. I don't think I would have got this job without the course – it was Sally who sent my CV over to Sony/ATV. Major labels are extremely hard to get into without a connection on the inside."
Adrian Binns, who graduated from the course last year, has scooped a digital marketing assistant position at Ministry of Sound after doing a paid iTunes internship through the course, joining the number of Westminster graduates who already work there.
Adrian said that the lecturers' excellent industry connections had a positive impact on his career "without a doubt". He said: "Pretty much every internship and job I've had during and after the course can somehow be chalked up to the lecturers and contacts made while studying. We had well-known industry professionals from all different areas come in and speak to us every week. The lecturers are also very well connected – they have all had practical experience in the UK music industry."
In this academic year weekly guest speakers on the course included BBC Radio 1 Xtra Breakfast Show host and Head of A&R at Atlantic Records Twin B, Wretch 32 Manager Zeaon Richards, Head of A&R at XL Recordings Matt Thornhill, and Artist Manager Adrian Sykes.
Course Director Sally Anne Gross says: "I am always on the lookout for openings for the students. We consider this a big part of what we do and how we both serve our students and industry. Of course the students do the hard work and the employers make the choices but I love being able to put the right people in with the right company."
In collaboration with the University's successful music business network MusicTank, Sally has set up the innovative Future Thinking initiative at the University to showcase students' ideas to the industry. Sally has also developed a pioneering internship programme including iTunes.
