Dr Patricia Hogwood explores Germany's stance on Europe's refugee crisis

Politics and International Relations 7 September 2015

As the crisis in the Mediterranean spirals out of control, refugees are becoming increasingly desperate to reach the safety of Europe.

Dr Patricia Hogwood, Reader in European Politics in the Department of Politics and International Relations, explains why Germany is emerging as the champion of refugees and how this crisis is giving ordinary Germans an opportunity to break free of their historic past and make a conscious choice for a ‘good Germany’. Dr Hogwood's analysis of the current European crisis can be found online at the Political Studies Association's Political Insight blog.
