Student Switch Off - Success for Wigram House students

24 April 2014

Students living in Wigram House hall of residence at the University of Westminster have won the 2013-14 Student Switch Off energy-saving and recycling competition.

Over this academic year Wigram House residents got the most involved in the campaign and significantly reduced energy consumption in comparison to previous year’s usage.

Wigram House will be celebrating in style at a Student Switch Off Ben & Jerry’s giveaway event this term.

Together, University of Westminster residents have reduced carbon emissions by 42 tonnes which is equivalent to making over 2.7million cups of tea! It just goes to show that small actions can make a real difference in the fight against climate change.

There are over 375 Eco-Power Rangers across all the University of Westminster halls of residence, this is over a quarter of all halls students who have been switching off lights and appliances when not in use, putting lids on pans when cooking, not overfilling their kettles and recycling correctly.

Thanks to everyone who took part and we hope that your energy-saving and recycling actions continue!
