Postgraduate and MBA International Mentoring Celebration Evening 2014

24 September 2014

The Business Experience Team at Westminster Business School hosted the first International Mentoring Celebration Evening at our Marylebone Campus on 7 August.

With guest speakers from Middlesex Business School and a whole host of Postgraduate and MBA alumni, the evening celebrated the vibrant international student base and the growth and success of the international mentorship programme.

Dr Spinder Dhaliwal, Director of Postgraduate Programmes and Reader of the Department of Marketing and Strategy at the Business School, delivered a welcome speech praising the success of the programme, as since 2011/12 there has been a 25% increase in the number of mentorship opportunities offered to international Postgraduate and MBA students, with 65 students and 33 mentors taking part this year.

Dr Julie Haddock-Millar and Chandana Sayal from Middlesex Business School discussed ‘The changing dimensions of mentoring in the context of cultural diversity’ in their speech on the value of mentorship.

Three awards were given during the event; Constantine Louis, an alumnus of the University, received the ‘Longstanding Mentor’ award, having mentored 11 postgraduate students from a variety of courses. Steven Kurtosi was awarded the ‘Mentor of the Year’ award, described by his mentee as going ‘above and beyond as a mentor’ and Jessica Boland received the ‘Mentee of the Year’ award, and was described as having ‘much more professional confidence’ by her mentor.

The evening also provided an excellent opportunity for networking as well as demonstrating the value of mentoring opportunities at Westminster Business School, and the appreciation felt by all of those involved in the international mentorship programme.
