Oscar nominated, BAFTA winning: The Act of Killing

21 February 2014

The Act of Killing, directed by Joshua Oppenheimer - a Reader at the Media, Arts and Design faculty of the University of Westminster - and produced by Professor Joram ten Brink, was nominated for an Oscar and won a BAFTA for Best Documentary.

The Act of Killing was nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature at the 86th Academy Awards ceremony held on 3 March. The film has also scooped a BAFTA for Best Documentary and has won a string of awards with more than 40 prizes in film festivals around the world over the last 12 months.

The most recent accolade is the top prize at the inaugural Guardian Film Awards. Guardian film editor Catherine Shoard said: "We're proud to give the top honour to a film we all felt so passionately about; it's the embodiment of what these awards are trying to do - celebrate brilliant, boundary-pushing cinema, regardless of genre, language or box office, and put our readers at the heart of the debate."
