Fashion students get hands-on experience at global accessories brand

Fashion 31 March 2014

More than 30 first year students from the Fashion Buying Management BA Honours course spent the afternoon of 28 March at TLG Brands, a global fashion accessories company which owns and licenses a portfolio of the Fiorelli, Nica and Modalu brands.

The event was arranged by senior lecturer Josie Misick, a former colleague of company CEO Michael Hiscock.

Josie was excited to get the students out of the classroom and into the TLG showrooms, and the students were keen to put what they had learnt in their first year into practice. Executives from TLG showed the students all three brand showrooms, gave short presentations on different aspects of the business and answered students’ questions.

The students were then encouraged to take part in an exercise that involved them acting as potential buyers for a number of national chains like John Lewis and Debenhams, and general buyers for Japanese and Belgian markets. Staff at TLG were impressed with the students’ presentations. They remarked that the students had a firm understanding of what was needed to build a range of selections appropriate to the businesses and successful marketing campaigns.

Josie said: “I was extremely proud of the students today. This initiative presented a great opportunity for them to get some hands-on industry experience and make some of those invaluable industry contacts, and they all seized this opportunity and were extremely engaged and focused. I would like to thank all the staff at TLG for giving up their time and for making this such a positive and valuable experience for the students.”
