‘The Look of Silence’ documentary receives 5 awards at Venice Film Festival

In Oppenheimer's documentary, a family of survivors of the Indonesian genocide discovers how their son was murdered and the identity of the men who killed him. The youngest brother is determined to break the spell of silence and fear under which the survivors live, and so confronts the men responsible for his brother’s murder.
The film follows on from Joshua Oppenheimer's previous film 'The Act of Killing', which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature at the 86th Academy Awards ceremony and won a BAFTA for Best Documentary.
The five awards won in Venice were:
- The Grand Prize of the Jury
- FIPRESCI Award (International Film Critics Award) - Best film
- Mouse d'Oro Award (Online Film Critics Award) - Best film
- Fedeora Prize Venezia 71 (European Film Critics Award) - Best European/Mediterranean film
- Human Rights Nights Award
