Westminster lecturer gives keynote to Research Network on Nordic Populism

20 May 2013

Dr Ben Pitcher, of the Department of Social and Historical Studies and the Centre for the Study of Democracy, gives a keynote lecture this week to the Research Network on Nordic Populism.

The research network’s third annual seminar is being held in Turku, Finland, following previous events in Norway and Denmark. Exploring the rise of populist politics in the Nordic countries, the seminar assembles scholars from across Europe and the Nordic countries. Dr Pitcher’s paper explores a disavowed relationship between right-wing populism and social liberalism, considering what British tastes for Nordic literature, TV, food and design tell us about the contemporary politics of race and nation.
