The impact of the Research Excellence Framework for Business Schools

11 November 2013

Professor Barbara Allan, Dean of Westminster Business School, shares her views about the Research Excellence Framework - the UK government’s mechanism to assess the quality of research in universities - in an interview with the Financial Times.

According to the article, when appointing new professors for the faculty, Barbara Allan looks for people who can do more than publish a couple of articles in top journals. Her list of professorial requirements includes a willingness to mentor early-stage researchers, the ability to contribute to the research knowledge exchange and involvement in learning and teaching.

"The Ref, though it's very important, can be a distraction from our main vision and mission" - says the Dean.
