The benefits of study abroad programmes

11 November 2013

Giorgio Di Pietro - Reader in the Economics of Education at the Westminster Business School in London - comments on the effects of study abroad programmes on students' employability.

Giorgio Di Pietro conducted a study for IZA - The Institute for the Study of Labour - covering the benefits of international educational mobility schemes like the European Erasmus scholarship programme.

According to Giorgio, graduates who studied abroad during university are more likely to be in employment three years after graduation.

The findings have important policy implications as the European Commission is currently planning to significantly expand the Erasmus programme over the next years. This plan, named “Erasmus for all”, would give the possibility to study abroad to a larger number of students. Please visit IZA website to find out more about this study and its implications.

If you are considering an international experience please check our study abroad pages.
