Internet Safety Day 5 February 2013

5 February 2013

Today is Internet Safety Day, focusing on raising awareness of online rights and responsibilities.

There are a few key actions you can take to ensure you’re using the Internet safely and responsibly during study, work or leisure.

Set secure passwords

Your password for the University network is not simply something that provides network access. It is also a critical part of your online identity; like a driving licence or passport, your University network password should be secure and should never be shared for any reason.

Never lend your network username and password to anyone, as you could be held accountable for any misuse. Your username and password do not just provide access to the network and wireless services, but also to your University email, SRSWeb, Blackboard and network file storage which all contain highly personal and sensitive information.

Your University network password is very important, and we are working on making it easier for you to reset it if you ever forget it. A new password self service will be launched on Monday 18 February.
