Entrepreneurship: More decision making than risk taking
24 June 2013
Entitled Entrepreneurship: more decision making that risk taking, we were delighted to be joined on the evening by guest speaker Andrew Lawrence, a successful entrepreneur and former Managing Director, Health Services at Capita Business Services who shared his experiences of business startup and how he overcame the challenges he faced when he decided to start up his own health care consultancy company, Westhill Consultancy Ltd following the completion of his MBA at Imperial College in 2002.
Speaking to a packed audience Andrew focused in particular on how he managed the transition of his business from a single-handed practice to a large organisation, and also talked through the process of selling his business in 2008 to Tribal Consulting Ltd (later bought over by Capita Business Services) where he remained as a Managing Director, Health Services until December 2012.
Now embarking on setting up his second health care consultancy company, Monmouth Partners Ltd, Andrew also spoke about his experience of starting up a new business for a second time, before opening the floor to a lively and informative discussion with alumni and members of the audience sharing their own experiences of entrepreneurship.
Guests also had the opportunity to network during the event with 22 MBA/EMBA students from the Moscow International Higher Business School - MIRBIS, who joined the first residential week organised by Westminster Business School. Further information and photos can be found on the School's MBA blog and Facebook page. A video of the presentation is available on youtube.
The MBA Tuesday Club will return in October 2013. If you have suggestions of topics/speakers you would like to see included in the new series please contact the Alumni team at email@example.com.
