Westminster double-win at the RTS Student Awards

10 February 2012

Students from the University of Westminster have walked away with wins in both the Factual and Drama categories at this year’s Royal Television Society Student Awards.

Showgirl, made by students from BA Television Production, scored the top spot in the Factual category.

Directed by Marianne Skogen and filmed by Rosanna Saradino, the film gives a unique insight into the life of a dancer at the Moulin Rouge and achieved unprecedented levels of access to this notoriously publicity-shy venue.

The quality and volume of this exclusive backstage access, thanks in part to the fact that three members of the four-strong production team were female, greatly impressed the RTS judges.

The same course also secured a nomination in the Factual category for Gigha – A Portrait of Island Life, causing RTS judges to comment on the University of Westminster’s domination in this category and the success of our pitching process.
