University of Westminster fashion graduates to debut at London Fashion Week

Fashion 20 December 2012

University of Westminster fashion graduate, Ashley Williams is set to follow in the path of fellow course graduate Claire Barrow to show her debut London Fashion Week collection at Fashion East in February 2013.

Ashley Williams’ graduate made headlines with her Texan-inspired collection. Modelled by Pixie Geldof and Alice Dellal at the graduate fashion show, Williams presented a kitsch take on Americana. Specialising in light-hearted prints, her ecstatic ‘Happy Ashley ‘motif is as infectious as it is wearable on cropped cigarette pants, A-line dresses and silk shirts. Her collection will be stocked by Machine-A from early 2013.

Williams’ London Fashion Week debut is hotly anticipated. Her ‘all-American’ staples have already been worn on stage by Rihanna and have been featured in such titles as Vogue UK, The Independent, Nylon and ELLE.  The finalists were chosen by Fashion East’s panel of industry experts, which includes Sarah Mower (Contributing Editor, Vogue US & and Hugo Scott (Head of European Operations, Marc Jacobs).

Director Lulu Kennedy MBE says of this season’s designers: “They are brilliant! Claire captivated everyone last season and we’re excited to see her development for AW13. Ashley’s fresh and confident aesthetic is the perfect addition to our line-up!”

Claire Barrow first joined Fashion East for the SS13 collection. With commissions for Rihanna and a collaboration with Joseph under her belt, ‘fashion artist’ Claire Barrow returns for AW13.  Heralded as one of London’s most promising ones to watch, Barrow’s London Fashion Week debut saw her presenting a considered unisex collection. Inspired by spirits, boxy jackets and printed silk dresses were teamed with frill hem skirts and cracked painted trousers. Her signature hand-painted leathers and elaborately illustrated garments have been worn by everyone from Kristen Stewart in Vogue UK to The Horrors frontman Faris Badwan as part of a Claire Barrow for SHOWstudio live special project.

Andrew Groves, Course Director for Fashion Design at Westminster, says: “I’m extremely excited that Ashley Williams is now joining Claire Barrow and showing at London Fashion Week in February as part of Fashion East. Whilst at Westminster both Claire and Ashley had a clear fashion vision and it was a pleasure to work with them towards their graduate collection. Our philosophy at Westminster is to work with our students as individuals and focus on nurturing the new talent of tomorrow. We predict great things for both of them in the future”
