Senna success at the Critics’ Circle Awards

1 February 2012

Asif Kapadia’s documentary on the life and death of iconic Brazilian Formula One racing driver Ayrton Senna adds to its award tally by scooping Documentary of the Year at the Critics’ Circle Awards.

It’s been a whirlwind year for Kapadia, who recently picked up the World Cinema Audience Award Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival 2011, Best British Documentary at the British Independent Film Awards and the Audience Award for Best International Feature at the Los Angeles Film Festival 2011.

This time, it’s the London Critics’ Circle who awarded him 'Documentary of the Year' at a star studded ceremony at the BFI on London's Southbank on the 19 January 2012.

Since graduating from the University of Westminster in 1994, Kapadia has directed several award-winning films, including The Sheep Thief (1997), The Warrior (2001) and Far North (2007, FILM4). Asif continues his association with the University by giving guest lectures to up and coming filmmakers at the University of Westminster’s School of Media, Arts and Design and sits on the Advisory Board of the Regent Street Cinema restoration project.
