Chinese New Year

23 January 2012

The Chinese New Year began on 23 January and this is the Year of the Dragon.

Embracing the spirit of the Chinese New Year and to celebrate the launch of the new Student Charter, we are giving out fortune cookies across University campuses today. Drop in to the foyers of the Cavendish, Harrow, Marylebone and Regent Street campuses from 12-2pm to find out what fortune the Chinese New Year will bring.

Also, students won’t want to miss London’s Chinese New Year celebrations, which kick off on Sunday 29 January in Trafalgar Square. The celebrations, taking place on the doorstep of the central London campuses, are the largest celebrations of the Chinese New Year outside of Asia.

Festivities begin at 10.15am on Sunday 29 January with a parade of floats from Trafalgar Square to Rupert Street. Mayor Boris Johnson and Chinatown President Stanley Tse will commence the Dotting of the Eye ceremony at noon, to kickstart an afternoon of music, acrobatics, dance, food...and Chinese dragons! The finale will be a fireworks display in Trafalgar Square at 5.40pm.
