New iWestminster mobile app for students to launch
27 August 2011
The app, called iWestminster, has been designed to enable students to keep track of their university life in the palm of their hands.
It will give students the tools to manage not only their student life - courses, news/events, communicating with staff - but also their lives outside of the university through campus maps and the find-a-friend feature.
Students will also have access to the find-a-PC locator tool that updates the availability of the University's 1,286 computer seats every 15 minutes.
The University wanted to give students the opportunity to get involved and stay connected with the University even when they were off campus.
This is a great chance to increase the University of Westminster’s online presence in an already highly competitive area.
It is hoped this tool will make a real difference to students at the University and lead them to engage with the University’s other online offerings.
The app can be downloaded instantly - depending on your network speed - and via a simple registration process any student of the University can be connected.
The app, available now from the App Store and coming soon to Android devices, has undergone a successful soft launch and is now being promoted across the University in time for the new student in-take in September 2011.
The service can also be accessed via the browser on your smartphone or PC/laptop at https://westminster.ombiel.co.uk
The project has been created in conjunction with oMbiel, a company focused on the design and delivery of innovative mobile computing solutions to empower the mobile workforce.
