Sky News: Dr Winston Mano comments on Zimbabwe protests and politics

30 January 2019

Dr Winston Mano, Director of the Africa Media Centre and Course Leader for the Media and Development MA, was recently interviewed by Sky News to analyse the protests that broke out in Zimbabwe.

Talking about what led to the protests, Dr Mano said: “The problems in Zimbabwe have been deepening and worsening because of the fuel hikes which are also leading to inflation, high prices in a situation where there is massive unemployment.”

Highlighting the importance of the government asking questions and finding out what exactly happened, he concluded: “The austerity measures they are pushing forward, they seem to be rapid and they are incentivising ordinary people. And that has led to other countries to support them.”
