The Voice: Meet the people changing the UK

Dr Shirley J Thompson, Composer and Reader in Composition and Performance at the University of Westminster, has been featured in The Voice’s print edition in an article on the top ten ‘extraordinary individuals helping to shape the direction of the UK’.

The Voice’s article named Dr Thompson as ‘one of Britain's most innovative composers’ and particularly praised her extensive music creation for TV/ film, theatre, dance and opera production as well as becoming the first woman in Europe in 40 years to compose and conduct a symphony.

The article also mentioned that she is currently making a programme for the BBC about Florence B Price, the first African American women to compose a symphony and have it performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1932.

Dr Thompson was featured in The Voice’s top 10 list alongside British Vogue Editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, anti-Brexit campaigner and founder of the True and Fair Foundation Gina Miller, and Ofcom Chief Executive Sharon White.
