The Huddersfield Daily Examiner: Will Jodie Whittaker keep her Yorkshire accent for her Doctor Who role?

Television, Film and Moving Image 11 August 2017

Danny Nichol, Professor of Public Law at the University of Westminster, wrote a blog post, discussing the role of the 13th Doctor Who, which will be played by Jodie Whittaker. The blog post was quoted in the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.

Danny Nichol suggested there ought not to be objections if Jodie gives the Doctor a Yorkshire twang and added that much of Doctor Who is still set in London and the south east.

“This needs to change. And if Doctor Who is to be a programme which reflects the whole of Britain there should be no objection in continuing to reflect this in the Doctor’s richly diverse identity - including her accent.”
