Gothic Studies

English at the University of Westminster has a particularly strong international reputation in the study of gothic.

Emma McEvoy, Alexandra Warwick and Martin Willis are recognised authorities in eighteenth-century and Victorian gothic, and that expertise has been extended with Monica Germanà's work on contemporary gothic and Anne Witchard's on chinoiserie and urban gothic.

Among other events, in March 2008 the department funded a one-day conference that resulted in the collection London Gothic (2010), co-edited by Anne Witchard.
