How to add references from e-resources

Many databases like ScienceDirect or Business Source Complete let you save any references you find straight to RefWorks, so you don’t have to type them in manually. You can either can send your search results directly to RefWorks, or save your search results as a list of references and then import the list into RefWorks.

Each database works slightly differently, and instructions for most of the Library's databases are listed below. If your database is not listed here, you may be able to use a generic import filter to transfer your search results to RefWorks:

  • If there is an export/save option for EndNote, use this option and then import your references to RefWorks using the Refer Format import filter.
  • If there is an export/save option for Reference Manager, use this option and then import your references to RefWorks using the RIS Format import filter.
  • If there is an export/save option for Medline, use this option and then import your references to RefWorks using NLM PubMed as the import filter.

For more help with importing references to RefWorks, contact Ask a Librarian or speak to your Liaison Librarian.
