Withdrawal policy for study abroad programmes

Tuition Fee Withdrawal Policy for Study Abroad Programmes (excluding Summer Schools and EFL+ Study Abroad)

Withdrawal Policy relating to the tuition fee of the following study abroad programmes: Undergraduate Semester Study Abroad Internship Programme for International Students; Year or Semester Undergraduate Study Abroad Programme for International Students; Postgraduate Semester Study Abroad Programme; Undergraduate Semester Study Abroad Programme for students from the European Union.

1.1   If you wish to withdraw from the specified Study Abroad Programmes you can do so by the following dates and you will not be charged for your tuition fees:

  • 15 June for Semester 1 (for study starting in September)
  • 31 October for Semester 2 (for study starting in January)

1.2   If you withdraw from the specified study abroad programme after these dates then the following withdrawal policies relating to tuition fees are in place:

1.2.1   If you wish to withdraw after the final withdrawal date but prior to the commencement date of the programme, an administration fee of £500 will be levied; any other tuition fee will be repaid in full if paid in advance.

1.2.2   If you wish to withdraw during the first two weeks of the semester, a £500 administration fee will be charged. The remaining tuition fees will be refunded if you have paid in advance.

1.2.3   If you withdraw at a later date in the semester you are liable for the full tuition fee and no refund of tuition fees will be made.

Please note you cannot withdraw from the Internship Programme once you arrive as you will have been issued with a visa to undertake the programme and this will be your condition of entry to the UK.

Accommodation Withdrawal and Refund Policy for all study abroad programmes (excluding London International Summer School and EFL+ Study Abroad) 

1.1   If you are due to commence your studies in Semester 1:

1.1.1   If you wish to withdraw from your housing offer before residence begins and prior to you joining the programme you must email [email protected] and the Student Accommodation Office [email protected] more than 1 week before residence is due to begin.

You will be charged/liable for a £50 administration charge.

1.1.2   If you do not advise us of your intention to withdraw from the university’s accommodation more than 1 week before residence is due to begin for semester 1 you are liable for the full rental fee until a replacement can be found.

If it is not possible to rent the room to another student then you are not entitled to any refund of your accommodation fees and will be liable for full payment of all accommodation fees.

1.2   If you are due to commence your studies in Semester 2:

1.2.1   If you wish to withdraw from your housing offer before residence begins and prior to you joining the programme you must email [email protected] and the Student Accommodation Office [email protected] more than 2 weeks before residence is due to begin.

You will be charged/liable for a £50 administration charge.

1.2.2   If you do not advise us of your intention to withdraw from the university’s accommodation more than 2 weeks before residence is due to begin for semester 2 then you are liable for the full rental fee until a replacement can be found.

If it is not possible to rent the room to another student then you are not entitled to any refund of your accommodation fees and will be liable for full payment of all accommodation fees.

1.3   If you decide to withdraw from the programme once you have commenced your studies, or, for example you decide to alter the length of your study abroad programme you must advise the Education Abroad Team of your intention to withdraw from housing by emailing us at [email protected] and the Student Accommodation Office [email protected].

1.3.1   If you decide to withdraw once you have commenced your studies or alter your programme length you are liable for all housing fees as per the housing contract for the duration of your stay in the University’s accommodation. Once you have commenced your studies with us, refunds of any accommodation fees if you withdraw from the programme or alter your programme length, are subject to the room being rented to another student.

1.3.2   If it is not possible to rent the room to another student then you are not entitled to any refund of your accommodation fees and will be liable for full payment of all accommodation fees.

1.3.3   This policy applies to all circumstances relating to withdrawal from the programme, including any decision to shorten your length of study from, for example, a year to a semester programme.
