Ranjani Mazumdar

Ranjani Mazumdar is Associate Professor of Cinema Studies at the School of Arts & Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University and an Independent Filmmaker. Her publications and films focus on urban cultures, popular cinema, gender and the cinematic city. She is the author of Bombay Cinema: An Archive of the City published by the University of Minnesota Press and is also co-authoring The Indian Film Industry (British Film Institute, BFI Publications: forthcoming).

Her documentaries include, Delhi Diary 2001, on violence, memory and the city, and The Power of the Image (co-directed), a television series on Bombay Cinema. She has been a visiting research fellow at the Davis Centre for Historical Studies at Princeton University and a British Academy fellow affiliated with the Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM), University of Westminster, U.K. She has been a visiting faculty at the Department of Cinema Studies, Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, at the Mass Communication Research Centre at Jamia Millia Islamia University and at the Film and Television Institute, Pune. Her current research focuses on globalization and film culture, film in the 1960s, and film posters.
