FAB FEST is a new International Fabrication Festival open to the public on Saturday 2 July, hosted by the University of Westminster’s Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment. The Festival will be an interactive, colourful celebration of making with lots of fun for children and adults alike.

The mini ‘Glastonbury in the City’ will feature a festival of 50 or more innovative cardboard pavilions designed and built as part of a competition by students from the University of Westminster and guest teams from around the world, mentored by either an academic or a practicing professional from the field of architecture and the built environment. The pavilions will be made from cardboard and a range of other lightweight, cheap, recyclable materials, provided by Westminster’s digital Fabrication Laboratory. Teams can use either simple hand tools or the Lab’s digital fabrication machines to make the pavilions.

The festival will take place at the University’s Central London Marylebone Campus in the Fabrication Laboratory and Ambika P3, our acclaimed exhibition space. On Saturday 2 July our public event will include workshops in robot making, mask making and paper making, in addition to the activities hosted by the pavilions and their teams. Entertainment will be provided in the evening on two stages in the venue, including musical performance by Westminster student and BBC’s The Voice UK 2015 finalist Emmanuel Nwamadi.

For further information and to book a ticket, visit the FAB FEST website. If you have any questions about the event, feel free to email [email protected].

Coinciding with the University’s end-of-the-year architecture student exhibition OPEN 2016, this celebration of design and making will generate a unique urban festival to kick off the summer!
