English, Linguistics and Cultural Studies
The Department of English, Linguistics and Cultural Studies offers supervision of PhDs in English Literature, English Language, Linguistics, Cultural Studies and Visual Culture.
In English Literature and Language, the Department has specific expertise in fields including: gothic studies; fin de siecle and modernism; Victorian poetry; contemporary fiction; literature and science; critical theory; Samuel Beckett; medieval language and literature.
The University’s long-established tradition of research in Linguistics now embraces a number of areas of research expertise including: multilingualism and language contact; creole linguistics; lexical history and categorisation; theoretical syntax.
The Visual Culture and Cultural Studies section is composed of academics, curators and practitioners, and offers expert research supervision in fields including: the visual and material culture of the city; biocultures; museums and cultural institutions; new media and digital arts; art and science.
