Our research profile

The Westminster Business School (WBS), located in Central London provides a dynamic multidisciplinary international research environment with modern facilities and high-calibre research staff.

We host research degree programmes leading to PhD and MPhil awards, and are able to offer supervision in several specialist areas within the general field of business and management. We also offer PhD by Published Works and are in the process of developing a DBA programme that is expected to go live in 2016. The development of the research degree programmes is viewed as a crucial aspect of the School’s research strategy and we are constantly working on improving the experiences of our doctoral researchers. If you are successful in your application you would be joining a growing and vibrant doctoral community that emphasises cutting edge research and training that prepares you for the challenges of the future.

Our research degree students enjoy computer facilities and their own dedicated doctoral room, situated in a separate part of the business school. Our site is has recently benefited from a £20 million refurbishment that has enabled us to co-locate our doctoral students within a light, spacious area designed to promote a vibrant, dynamic and international research environment. You would also benefit from access to a number of specialist software packages to support high level research analysis and excellent library facilities both on-site and at the British Library which is within walking distance.

Doctoral students are invited to attend and present their work at the School’s weekly research seminars. Additionally, every year we organize a colloquium where research degree students gather together, exchange ideas, and receive feedback on their work. We also provide bespoke support for attending UK based doctoral colloquia and research conferences appropriate to the discipline and stage of study.

In addition to working on your research project, you would be expected to attend the University Doctoral Researcher Development Programme (DRDP). Our DRDP training is a new and exciting programme of tailor made workshops, individual sessions and personal development planning activities that is delivered in ‘burst-mode’ to our researchers. The programme covers generic and specific research skills at both University and faculty level with the aim of ensuring that you leave us not only with a successful doctorate, but also with the research skills and personal qualities that are expected of a modern day researcher. On top of this, WBS offers its researchers additional methods training (qualitative and quantitative) and you also have the option of participating on specific postgraduate taught courses that might be relevant to your field of research.
