Greek – Evening Language Course

Would you like to learn Greek in London? Join one of our part-time Greek courses at our central London Regent Street Campus – just a few minutes' walk from Oxford Circus.

Our beginner Greek courses start in October and January (2 hours a week) as well as April (1.5 hours a week). If you already have some knowledge of Greek you can also join part 2 or part 3 of the Beginner Greek course.

Who is this class for?

Greek Beginner is the first exposure to the language, allowing you to start to communicate.

  • Part 1 is for you if you have no or little previous knowledge of Greek.
  • You can join Part 2 if you have studied Greek for about 20 hours.
  • You can join Part 3 if you have studied Greek for about 40 hours.

Booking

You can book:

  • Part 1 for £267 (£297 after 31 July)*
  • Parts 1, 2 and 3 together for £550 (£607 after 31 July)*

To book all three parts, please proceed with booking Part 1 and add Parts 2 and 3 to your order when prompted during the checkout process. Please note that purchasing 3 Parts together equates to one single transaction therefore we do not accept cancellation requests for Parts 2 and 3 individually. Cancellations requests must be made more than 16 days before the start of Part 1.

Course content

Our Greek lessons follow a communicative approach to language teaching, focusing on the language you need to communicate in authentic situations with an emphasis on speaking and listening. Our evening classes are taught by experienced language teachers who are native speakers of the language or equivalent.

Part 1

Topics

In this term, we will cover:

  • the alphabet
  • greetings and personal introductions (formal and informal occasions)
  • numbers 0–100
  • cities
  • the area where you live
  • professions
  • family

Grammar

You will learn:

  • the verb ‘to be’ in the in the present tense (είμαι)
  • verbs type A (μένω, έχω) in the present tense
  • verbs type B1 (μιλάω) and verbs type Β2 (οδηγώ, ζω) in the present tense
  • personal pronouns (εγώ, εσύ etc.)
  • definite and indefinite articles (ο, η, το, ένας, μία, ένα)
  • possessive pronouns (μου, σου, του etc.)

 

Part 2

Topics

In this term, we will cover:

  • prices and currencies
  • feelings and opinions (likes and dislikes)
  • at the office
  • at the cafe
  • exchange of information about the time and the place
  • the time and the days of the week

Grammar

You will learn:

  • demonstrative pronouns (αυτός, αυτή, αυτό)
  • nouns (singular) in masculine (-ος, ης, ας), feminine (-η, -α) and neuter (-ο, -ι, -μα)
  • adjectives and nouns – gender and number (singular)
  • irregular verbs (πάω, λέω, τρώω, ακούω)
  • type C1 (γίνομαι, σκέφτομαι) and type C2 (κοιμάμαι, θυμάμαι) in the present tense
  • prepositions of place (δίπλα, κοντά etc.)

 

Part 3

Topics

In this term, we will cover:

  • means of transport
  • trips and journeys
  • at the market (foods and clothes)
  • at the restaurant
  • types of housing (buildings and interiors)

Grammar

You will learn:

  • nouns (plural) in masculine (-ος, ης, ας), feminine (-η, -α) and neuter (-ο, -ι, -μα)
  • adjectives and nouns – gender and number (plural)
  • adjectives that demonstrate colour and nationality
  • future tense (verbs type A and irregular verbs)
  • expressions of desire (θα ήθελα)
  • interrogative pronouns in singular and plural (πόσος, πόση, πόσο)

There may be slight content variations at the discretion of the tutor. We may, for example, include additional content when general progress is good, or vary content according to students’ interests. The distribution of content across parts may vary from one year to the next depending on the length of parts.
