Would you like to learn Arabic in London? Join one of our part-time Arabic courses at our central London Regent Street Campus – just a few minutes' walk from Oxford Circus.

Our beginners’ Arabic courses (Grade 1) start in October and January. If you already have some knowledge of Arabic you can also join part 2 or part 3 of the Beginners' Arabic (Grade 1) course.

We also have intermediate Arabic classes starting in October each year.

Who is this class for?

Arabic Beginners' (Grade 1) is the first exposure to the language, allowing you to start to communicate.

  • Part 1 is for you if you have no or little previous knowledge of Arabic.
  • You can join Part 2 if you have studied Arabic for about 20 hours.
  • You can join Part 3 if you have studied Arabic for about 40 hours.

Course content

Our Arabic lessons follow a communicative approach to language teaching, focusing on the language you need to communicate in authentic situations with an emphasis on speaking and listening. Our evening classes are taught by experienced language teachers who are native speakers of the language or equivalent.

Part 1

Topics

In this term, we will cover:

  • personal introductions
  • greeting people
  • the alphabet
  • family members
  • making polite requests and asking questions
  • professions

Grammar

You will learn:

  • demonstratives (singular)
  • the short and long Arabic vowels
  • masculine and feminine words
  • simple sentences
  • case endings: the nominative case
  • nouns (singular) and adjective agreement
  • plural words
  • possessive endings
  • singular personal pronouns

Part 2

Topics

In this term, we will cover:

  • describing places
  • countries and people
  • describing things such as everyday objects
  • describing location of objects
  • geographical positions
  • revision
  • numbers

Grammar

You will learn:

  • the definite article
  • sun letters and moon letters
  • prepositions of place
  • the genitive case
  • case endings for the sound masculine and feminine plural
  • the accusative case
  • dual case endings
  • idafa structure
  • nisba adjectives
  • more personal pronouns

Part 3

Topics

In this term, we will cover:

  • the definite article
  • sun letters and moon letters
  • prepositions of place
  • the genitive case
  • case endings for the sound masculine and feminine plural
  • the accusative case
  • dual case endings
  • idafa structure
  • nisba adjectives
  • more personal pronouns

Grammar

You will learn:

  • accusative case
  • patterns of broken plural
  • the masculine and feminine forms of colours
  • verb conjugation in the simple past tense
  • joining sentences together
  • different case endings

Who is this class for?

This level of Arabic is post-beginner, allowing you to extend your range of basic skills.

  • Part 1 is for you if you have already studied the Arabic language for approximately one year or 60 hours.
  • You can join Part 2 if you have studied Arabic for about 80 hours.
  • You can join Part 3 if you have studied Arabic for about 100 hours.

  • times and dates
  • days of the week
  • daily routine
  • transport

Grammar

You will learn:

  • word order
  • singular and plural verbs ( يكتب \ يكتبون \ كتب \ كتبوا )
  • verbs in the present
  • negating the past and present ( لا أشرب \ ما شربت \ لم أشرب )
  • asking questions about the present

Part 3

Topics

In this term, we will cover:

  • at the car rental office
  • education and business
  • international tour
  • future plans
  • expressing yourself

Grammar

You will learn:

  • pattern for place (مَفاعِل : مَكاتِب \ مَدارِس)
  • comparing past and present
  • attached pronouns with but, nouns and verbs
  • conjugation of verb forms (1-10)
  • weak and irregular verbs (قال \ وعد \ مشى)
  • comparative and superlative adjectives (أجمل \ الأجمل)
  • the future tense (سأُسافر \ سوف أَدرس)

Who is this class for?

You should have a good basic knowledge of the Arabic language and its grammar.

  • Part 1 is for you if you have already studied the Arabic language for approximately two years or 120 hours or equivalent.
  • You can join Part 2 if you have studied Arabic for about 140 hours.
  • You can join Part 3 if you have studied Arabic for about 160 hours.
