I am interested in how new technologies can enable ordinary people to design for themselves. I research how by considering dwellers’ online design activities as a source of collective intelligence, new horizons for participatory design can emerge. My PhD endeavors to provide a framework for a new user-based design method that emphasizes human needs and bridges the existing gap in knowledge between professional designers and laypeople. The project draws from Christopher Alexander’s Pattern Language theory and examines it considering new visual data and online-based design activities of dwellers.
