About me

Dr Ugo Obibuaku joined the University of Westminster as a Lecturer at the Centre for Education and Teaching Innovation in 2019.  He has worked within the human rights NGO and higher education sector for over 12 years. He was a Project Coordinator with Imagine Mental Health (UK).  In the past, he  taught in different institutions of higher learning, for instance - University of Exeter, University of Essex, Aberystwyth University (Mauritius Campus).

Dr Ugo Obibuaku is a qualified legal practitioner (Nigeria) with over twenty years post-call experience. He attended human rights advocates training on the use of international human right law for the promotion and protection of human rights at Danish Institute of Human Rights. He has a first degree in Law, a master’s in human Rights and a PhD in International Human Rights law. He is a Fellow of Advance HE.

Teaching

Dr Ugo Obibuaku is the Foundation Law Subject Leader at the Centre for Education and Teaching Innovation, University of Westminster. He teaches Law students, Introduction to Academic Practice and Critical Thinking for Academic and Professional Development modules.

His approach to learning and teaching is student centred. He employs a range of pedagogical tools in his teaching design and in delivery of lectures, seminars, and other classes, using methods such as interactivity, self-assessment, peer-led learning, formative exercises, practitioner talks, employability skills and teaching law with technologies.

Dr Ugo Obibuaku has been engaged in delivering/implementing national educational policies (with reference to national curriculum) in the United Kingdom and Mauritius. In terms of input, he teaches and manages education programmes. In terms of output, his students achieve the required standard of essential knowledge prescribed by the respective national curriculum. 

Research

Dr Ugo Obibuaku engages in multidisciplinary research and his general research interests focuses on the domestic observance and implementation of Human Rights with a particular attention to socio-economic rights.  He has conducted research and published in this area.

Background research for a case involving constitutional right to health/discrimination. The International Commission of Jurists, under its African Human Rights and Access to Justice Programme funded this project.
