Anthony Booker has been practising traditional Asian medicine for over twenty years. He is currently course leader and senior lecturer in the Chinese Herbal Medicine MSc at The University of Westminster.
He is also an analytical chemist and has a particular interest in the quality and safety of traditional plant-based medicines. He is a lecturer in medicinal plant science at The University of Westminster.
In 2014 he gained a PhD from University College London in Ethnopharmacy and Pharmacognosy. His research focused on the value chains of Curcuma longa (Turmeric) and how different value chains can affect both the livelihoods of the producing farmers and the quality of the finished products. His two post-doctoral projects investigated the quality of herbal medicinal products and their ingredients.
He is a past president of The Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (UK) and a member of The Herbal Medicines Advisory Committee, where he provided advice to UK medicines regulators and UK ministers on all aspects relating to Chinese herbal medicines.
He has been published in a wide variety of scientific journals and books and his current research interests focus on the use of plant metabolomics and how this can be used to improve the quality of traditional medicines.
His professional and academic memberships include, Member of The British Acupuncture Council, Member of The Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine, Member of The Royal Society of Chemistry and Fellow of The Linnean Society.
