Aerobic fitness and dietary assessment
Duration: 2.5 hours
Our fitness and dietary assessment service investigates four components: VO2 max, lactate threshold, body composition and dietary analysis with protocols specific to your sport and fitness levels. In addition, it is also possible to gauge the second lactate turning point (or functional power) during the metabolic measurement section of this assessment. This part of the assessment will also provide pulmonary gas exchange data that will allow for the calculation of energy expenditure (calories burnt) and substrate utilisation (i.e. amount of fat / CHO) at varying exercise intensities.
Your metabolic profile, as measured in this assessment, can be used to produce specific heart rate training zones for weight loss or to improve human performance.
The importance of sound nutrition cannot be overstated. Diets can be analysed to show whether macronutrient needs are being adequately met, and details of vitamin and mineral intakes can also be provided, and from this information guidelines for future eating and nutrition to optimise performance can be developed. Both your dietary and fitness data will be used to guide training and dietary intake to improve health or enhance performance.
The tests can be carried out on a treadmill or a bicycle. We use the SRM ergonometer. You can bring your own cleat pedals if you wish to carry out the test on our SRM bicycle. Finger tip blood samples will be required to measure blood lactate.
