Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Westminster is based at our Cavendish Campus in central London. With students from all around the world, we are a very international department in one of the top 100 most international Universities in the world.

The department has a strong reputation for the delivery of undergraduate courses and postgraduate courses that link the theoretical underpinning of their disciplines to cutting-edge applications, providing our graduates with experience in emerging technological trends.

Our courses are delivered by a team of dedicated, dynamic and research-active staff who are committed to providing high quality research-led teaching with tutorial classes of a maximum of 20 students per member of staff. Our high-end teaching and research laboratories offer access to all the latest and most up-to-date software. Our flexible teaching environment is complemented with the highest deployment of iPads for undergraduate students in the UK.

All our undergraduate courses include an optional placement year for students who wish to take a year out and work in industry. Our industrial contacts also mean that in any given academic year there are a whole range of leading computer-based industrial specialists who visit the department to give talks and presentations. Students also have the opportunity to engage with exchange visits organised with institutions abroad and to take part in national and international competitions.

At undergraduate level we offer courses in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Business Information Systems, Multimedia Computing and Computer Games Development. At postgraduate level we offer courses in Cyber Security and Forensics, Business Intelligence and Analytics, Computer Science and Multimedia.

Our courses are strongly influenced by the research expertise and industry links of our team, in particular areas such as cyber security, cloud computing, analytics, cognitive computing, software engineering, mobile development and computational vision. Our research students are undertaking PhD study in a wide range of subjects, benefiting from the department’s diversity and interdisciplinary links within and outside the University.

Our courses are accredited by the British Computer Society, fully meeting the educational requirement for CTIP registration.
