Design for Communication MA- 2013

I had a great time at the University of Westminster and some of my colleagues became amazing friends until today. I’m very passionate about my career so it was actually a pleasure to study a subject I enjoy.

What are you doing now?

As a Digital Designer for Marks and Spencer’s website, I work across different categories, such as Home and Kids, responsible for designing campaigns, landing pages, illustrations, emails and any digital assets required for the business. Also, I have been involved in redesigning the M&S.com website and the Autumn 2016 range of gift cards for all M&S stores.

What did you find most valuable about your course at Westminster? How did the skills you learnt during your degree help you to shape your career?

I was able to develop a lot of my creative and communication skills. We were a varied group of international students and it was good to always get different opinions on the projects I was working on. I’ve learnt how important research is and ideas behind a project, and how it can completely shape the best way for you to work.

What was the best thing about being a student in London?

Being able to go to different exhibitions, art galleries, shows and shops around the city. The amount of references I understand, just from being in London, definitely reflects on my work.

What extra-curricular activities did you participate in that enhanced your time at the University?

I worked as a Digital Designer Intern at the Daily Mail, which was a position recommended by Peter Smith, the Course Leader. I also opened my own business at the time, with a project started during the course – an online shop that sells products made of textiles I’ve designed.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing a similar career?

Having a Master’s degree definitely helped me to get a better job, especially when I come from Brazil and don’t have much experience in the country. I always gave my best in all projects during the course, which helped me to build a stronger portfolio.

Why would you recommend Westminster as a place to study?

Westminster is a well-seen university worldwide and has great tutors.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself, your achievements, life experiences, what inspires you, or career that may be valuable/interesting to our prospective students or alumni?
