Refugees and asylum seekers

If you're a refugee or if you have Indefinite or Exceptional Leave to Remain, or if you are under Humanitarian Protection, student funding arrangements can be complicated are quite confusing. We recommend that in the first instance, you have a look at the UKCISA Guidance Note: 'Student Support: Applying in England'.

If you're unsure what funding you may apply for or if you have any queries, get in touch with the Student Advice Service.

If you're an asylum seeker and the Home Office has not reached a decision on your application, you’ll not be eligible to receive statutory funding and will be classed as an overseas student for fees purposes. The Refugee Education and Training Advisory Service (RETAS) provides one-to-one funding advice to Asylum Seekers in specified areas of England.
